Color Contrast

Checks for sufficient contrast between text and background colors.

What is this check?

This is a manual check to ensure there is enough contrast between the color of your text and its background color. The standard (WCAG 2.1 AA) requires a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text.

Why is it important?

Users with low vision or color blindness may find it difficult or impossible to read text that does not have sufficient contrast with its background.

What is the impact?

Poor color contrast can make your content unreadable for a large number of users.

Example Implementation

Use an online color contrast checker. Enter your text and background hex codes to see if they pass the accessibility standards. For example, dark grey text (#333333) on a white background (#FFFFFF) has excellent contrast.
